Henri Matisse, When Dawn Breaks From the Night<\/em>.<\/strong>
\nThis novel is inspired by the first of many visits of Henri Matisse to Brittany.
\nIn the summer of 1895, the student painter was 25 years old and still very attached to the somber palette of the masters he studied at the Louvre.\u00a0Belle-\u00cele-en-Mer, with its colors and light, was a total change of scenery and a visual shock. Both moved and disturbed by the exuberance of wilderness, he left the island to reach the extreme tip of Finist\u00e8re, newly accessible by rail. Matisse moved to Pont-Croix, then to the village of Beuzec-Cap-Sizun where he became friends with a young pig keeper.
\nThis first stay in Brittany would release Matisse from the weight of the past and bring out a more luminous and colorful palette.<\/p>\n

Corinne Boureau, painter and sculptor, resident in the Netherlands since 1978. Her first novel,\u00a0S\u00e9raphine de Senlis<\/em>;\u00a0The Breath of the Angel\u00a0<\/em>(L’Harmattan, Collection “Amarante”, 2013) was nominated at the 2014 Chaumont Book Fair. Ik herinner me de tatoeages op de huid van een Maori in Nieuw-Zeeland. De tekening leek ge\u00efnspireerd op een stam van een boomvaren en het kon zo ge\u00efnterpreteerd worden: \u201c Ik ben de varen, ik ben de boom; de natuur is mij en ik ben de naruur…\u201d Vervolgens zei ik tegen mijzelf: \u201c De Maori-man draagt met zich mee de tekens die in het collectieve geheugen geschreven staan, hij heeft op zijn huid aangebracht wat zijn voorouders al wisten: de natuur is een deel van ons, zij is onuitwisbaar en dat is iets wat ik vooral niet mag vergeten!\u201d Gedragen door deze openbaring, het verlangen om dit geheugen te onderzoeken is naar mij toe gekomen.<\/p>\n

Via mijn schilderijen en mijne beelden, zoals een verhalenverteller, probeer ik te hervinden de beelden van het verleden, dat ik me verbeeld diep geworteld in ons lichaam. Ik tracht te doen herleven wat wij hebben niet gekend maar dat is verboren naar de diepten van onze ziel. De gelijkenissen tussen de mens en de planten zijn niet meteen zichtbaar want de voorouderlijke afdrukken zijn verboren onder de stille sluier van de natuur. Toch, is onze kennis gekoppeld aan een paar kleine dingen dichtbij onze ogen. Ik denk aan het zout van onze tranen, herinnering van een vervlogen tijd. Ik denk aan de gelijkenis van de palm van onze hand dat opent en sluit als een bloem, aan onze vijf vingers en de vijf kroonbladen van de boterbloem of aan de armen van een ster, aan onze aderen en de takjes van de boom, aan onze botten en de steen. De natuur heeft handtekeningen neergelegd in de hart der dingen. Zij schrijf zich in de mens en de mens schrijft zich in haar.<\/p>\n

In de beeldvorming van mijn werken, mijn geheimzinnige godinnen vertegenwoordigen het vrouwelijke principe waarvan uit voortvloeit elke vruchtbaarheid en elke creatieve kracht. Zij vertegenwoordigen de schepping van het heelal en de immanente krachten in het leven op aarde. Mijn nimfen zijn de centrum van de wereld om hen heen, dat wil zeggen het plantenrijk, het dierenrijk en de mineraal. Alles te samen, het zijn de moeders van de hele aarde en zij verbindt mijn weer met de stille sporen uit de doorstromende tijdperk.
\nAls ik werk, een metafoor roept een nieuwe. Onuitputtelijke beelden dompellen me, ontsluierend de boodschap van de onzichtbare. De voet wordt wortel, het haar wordt kronen van bomen en de armen worden takken. Ik verzin tatoeages van gebloemde twijgen. Sensuele, de liana\u2019s ineenvlechten de lichamen, het gele sap van het gras loopt onder de huid van de gezichten… Dan, beeld ik af wonderlijke kapselen. Ik verlang dat de vogels komen uitrusten op de takjes van onze haren en dat de merels en de mussen komen hier nesten. Ik kijk vol bewondering naar de goddelijke proporties van de zeeschelp en de slak. De natuur, subliem en gul, overweldigde mijn zintuigen en word ik estheet, diep in de contemplatie van haar pracht.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
